Metropolitan Iakovos of Mexico

Exarch of Central America and the Caribbean Islands

His Eminence was born in Pennsylvania, USA, while he pursued his circular studies in Hohenstaufen Gymnasium and Kaiserslautern, Germany.

He graduated from Hellenic College Holy Cross School of Theology in Boston and completed his graduate studies at the University of Exeter with a focus on “Ethno-phyletism” and “The Personhood of the Refugee”.

He speaks Greek and English as his mother tongues and additionally speaks Italian, Spanish, and German. He completed his military service in Greece. He served as secretary of external affairs and social programs of the Holy Metropolis of New Ionia and Philadelphia (Church of Greece).

He served as representative to the World Council of churches, Conference of European churches, Churches’ Commission for Migrants in Europe and many other theological and/or charitable organizations on behalf of the Church of Greece.

From 2020-2022 he served and the Director of Development at the Ecclesiastical Central Finance Service and in 2023 till his election in 2024 he served as the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Athens.

He was elected on the 24th of January, by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, as Metropolitan of Mexico which has the ecclesial jurisdiction of Central America and the Caribbean Islands.
